Spring 2012 Newsletter

Spring is now well and truly upon us. A season of transition, it brings a shift in energy that affects mind and body. Here are some of the effects the season has....

A natural high
The increasing hours of daylight bring positive psychological effects including improved mood, better memory, and increased cognition. The opportunity to be outdoors more frequently helps reduce stress.

Improved weight loss capacity
Over the colder months our metabolism slows and we naturally store more energy as fat. When the temperature begins to rise our metabolism dose too, making it naturally easier to lose weight. A change in nutrition needs can also support this, as we naturally desire lighter, fresher foods.

An opportunity to renew
Spring is the traditional time to detoxify the body. A detoxification program enhances the body’s natural channels of elimination to remove metabolic waste and endogenous toxins.

Top up vitamin D
Vitamin D levels commonly drop over the winter months due to lack of sunlight and being indoors more frequently. Vitamin D is crucial for many functions including maintaining healthy bones, supporting immune function and reducing risk of cancer.

Victorian recommendations for sun exposure during spring is 10 minutes of mid-morning or mid-afternoon sunlight to face, arms and hands.

Prepare a good defense
For people who suffer from hay fever spring can be quite unbearable. Preparing early before the pollen season begins is the optimum time to stage a natural defense. Commonly hay fever is worst late in the spring, therefore now is the perfect time to commence a natural strategy.
